Shraddha should be done according to the Tithi of Ashwin Krishna Paksha Amavasya. Pitru Paksha is completely dedicated to the ancestors. Shraddha Karm falls in a total of 16 days from the full moon day of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. The time duration of sixteen days from the full moon is called Pitru Paksha. It is mentioned in various scriptures that every living being dies on one or the other of these sixteen days. Therefore, on these sixteen days, everyone performs Shraddha Karm and Tarpan Vidhi for their ancestors.

Shraddh Vivek is one of the religious books in which the entire detailed Shraddha rituals have been described. With the guidance of Shraddha Vivek, you can perform Shraddha for your ancestors by Vedic process. By performing Shraddh rituals according to the Vedic rituals, the ancestors get satisfaction and they get satisfied from this earthly world (Pitru Lok). Many scholars use this book for performing Shraddh Karma and this book is also suggested by them to other people.

If you are unable to perform Shraddh at home by this book, even then you can get the tarpan done by a learned Pandit Ji through this book, because unless any worship is done with complete rituals, its full fruit is not obtained. If you have any compulsion due to which you cannot perform Shradha according to the detailed method of Shraddh, then you can also do Shraddh according to the short method.

According to Trividham Shraddh Muchyate, three types of Shraddha have been described in Matsya Purana, which is called Nitya, Naimittik and Kamya Shraddha. According to the Yamasmriti, five types of Shraddha are suggested which is called Nitya, Naimittik, Kamya, Vriddhi and Parvana.

Shradh Karma is performed for the satisfaction of the dead ancestors living in Pitru Lok. The serve of parents is given the most importance in Hindu Dharma. Therefore, after death, a person should not forget his parents, that is why a special processor has been given for his Shraddha, Tarpan and Pind Daan. The time period of sixteen days from Bhadrapada Purnima to Ashwin Krishna Paksha Amavasya is called Pitru Paksha, under which we serve our ancestors.
